A Note From the Junior President

Howdy Folks!
My name is Abbey Joe Ivey, I am a Senior at Bangs High School. At the 2017 AJRBA National Show, I was elected as your Junior President! I have been showing Red Brangus cattle since I was able to walk and am the third generation of my family to be raising the “Big Red Muley’s.” My family has been raising Red Brangus cattle for over 29 years now and have enjoyed every moment of these outstanding cattle.

I have served on the Junior Board several times and am very honored to hold the office of President for the coming year. I feel we have a great group of young people that have the same enthusiasm for the breed that I do, and hope that we can grow and expand our organization!

Over the past year, our Junior Board has worked tremendously hard to put on a fantastic 2017 National Show and without a doubt, it was a blast!!! I’d like to give a huge shout out to our Junior Chairman, Roger Smith and our 2016-2017 Junior President, Molly Smith… This father/daughter team did a tremendous job in making our show a success, without them it would have been impossible! I’d also like to thank anyone and everyone who donated their time or money to our organization, it was very appreciated!

Our National Junior Show was held on July 26-30, Red Brangus Junior members loaded up their trailer and showed off their skills in Aggieland! The 2017 Junior Show was themed “A Grand Chute-Out”, and let it be known, it most definitely was “Grand”!! Our Juniors participated in contests that showed their creativity, brain power and overall skills.

This year our Board Members decided to add another contest which was the Cooking Contest. The Cooking Contest allowed each participant to bring out their inner chef, our dishes varied from Beef tips to Carne Guisada. The contest was a huge hit, we had several participants in each age division! I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if there wasn’t a cookbook on the horizon, with all the great recipes from these junior families. During the show, the Juniors walked the ring with some very high-quality cattle, once again proving all the great attributes of our cattle and their breeders. As our 2017 Junior Show ended, Juniors got all dressed up for a very nice banquet filled with many prizes and scholarships for some top notch recipients! I can confidently tell you that this year’s Junior Nationals was a great success with a lot of memories of food, friends, and great cattle. This “Grand Chute Out” will definitely be a hard act to follow, but we will pledge to do our best and have fun while doing it. I will be looking forward to a fun year working in an organization that I love, alongside some outstanding young breeders!

I can’t wait to see you all again, Abbey Joe Ivey
