Jr President’s Message

Red Brangus drove the winning trail this summer at the American Junior Red Brangus Association National Jr. Show at the end of June! It was a fun week of contests, junior meetings, great meals, and competitive shows. Every exhibitor brought their best and the week was spectacular. The AJRBA officers and I are looking forward to planning events throughout the year, including a showmanship and grooming clinic. Over the next year, one goal of mine is to increase the involvement of new members while continuing that of returning members. Also, I want to focus on fundraising this year so that AJRBA can give out more prizes and continue to make our National Junior Show the best around. I hope everyone has a great rest of the summer and we look forward to seeing everyone throughout the year!

Katie Carter
AJRBA President

A Message from the Junior Committee Advisors

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the National Junior Red Brangus Show that was held in Lake Charles, Louisiana.  As junior advisors, we want to commend the junior officers, queen’s court and junior committee.  Their hard work and dedication makes events such as these possible.  We added several new contest and events to this year’s show.  One contest that was new this year was called the Skillathon.  We would like to extend a special thanks to Ms. Katy Knox and Mrs. Shawn Knox for facilitating this event.  This contest was a huge hit with adults and juniors alike.  The contestant had to correctly identify agricultural related items in specified amount of time.  The Skillathon proved to be extremely challenging and tons of fun for everyone.  This was a great way to learn new things and tested the skills of some seasoned “veterans.”  By judging the positive feedback and huge participation, the Skillathon contest is definitely etched its place in the schedule for years to come.  This year’s Ag Olympics contest was done a little different than in years past.  The committee came up with several “Minute to Win It” style challenges for the juniors to attempt.  There were challenges from stacking cans on the floating plate in the feed pan to the extremely popular ball drop.  The objective to was to drop golf ball on top of a glass bottle in away in which the ball would remain on top of the bottle. The final challenge of Ag Olympics was a favorite by lots of juniors “Flour Dodge Ball.”  The juniors that were able to complete the challenges received “barn bucks.”  The barn bucks where then used later that evening at the Junior Exhibitor Auction.  This auction was a blast for the juniors to spend their “money” on various items such as TVs, Dr Dre Headphones, show supplies, gift cards, etc.  As a parent it was a lot of fun watching the kids count out their “money” and patiently wait for the item they wanted to bid on.  The junior exhibitor auction was a huge hit and everyone went home with something!   On Friday, the showmanship contest was held and the competition was intense from the peewees through the adult divisions.   Mr. Lance Bearb of College Station, Texas selected the showmanship champions in five divisions.   Following the showmanship competition the Livestock Judging Contest was held.  This allowed juniors and adults alike to test their selection skills.  We would like to thank Dr. Shields and the McNeese State University Livestock Judging Team for administrating this contest for us.

After a full day of competition the juniors, families, and friends enjoyed an authentic Chuck Wagon Dinner.  The crew from Rafter TS Wagon Company was wonderful and the food was outstanding.  On Saturday morning the National Junior Show was held.  The juniors competed in the following shows:  National Junior Heifer Show, National Junior Bull Show, National Junior Bred and Owned Female Show, and the National Junior Bred and Owned Bull Show.  Ms. Traci Middleton of Purveyor, Tennessee evaluated the Red Brangus vying for top honors.  The show’s events where wrapped up at an awards banquet and fundraising auction.  The junior committee presented awesome prizes to lots of tremendous juniors!  The auction was a great success.  Congratulations to all our winners, sponsors, parents, and committee.

The American Junior Red Brangus Association National Junior Show would not be possible without the generosity and support of our sponsors. We would like to extend a special thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Engle for their efforts in this year’s fundraising project “Dinner with an Astronaut.” If you would like information regarding this event please feel free to contact me.  We would also like to thank all our junior committee members that unselfishly volunteered hours on end to assist in making this Junior Program wonderful.  A Huge Thank You to the Following:  Stacie and Zach Ford, Shannon and Corey Suire, Shawn Knox, Katy Knox, Sam and Julie Fontenot, Trevor Reifel, Susan and Paul Pederson, Jeanie Engle, Beth and Dennis Robinson.  You guys made the execution of this event a wonderful experience.  We look forward to working with each and every one of you in the future to continue to make our junior program great.

Respectfully

John and Mandy M. Fischer
